The Schottenhammel Festhalle is considered the oldest beer tent at Oktoberfest. Since 1950, the traditional tapping ceremony has taken place there. With the exclamation "O'zapft is!" after tapping the first beer keg at 12 noon, Oktoberfest is officially opened. The Mayor of Munich has traditionally performed the opening ceremony since the 1950s.
