The Theresienwiese is a large festival ground in Munich, mainly known as the venue for Oktoberfest, the world's largest folk festival. The name dates back to the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen in 1810, in whose honor the meadow was named "Theresiens Wiese." Every year, Oktoberfest takes place there, where numerous visitors gather in beer tents, enjoy Bavarian specialties, and use amusement rides.
Attraction
In the Wirtsbudenstraße, you will find the tents of the Munich breweries.
Reserving a table is almost a must at Oktoberfest, especially if you come with a larger group or want a spot in the popular tents in the evening. Without a reservation, it can be quite stressful to find a place at all. Additionally, you should always carry enough cash, as card payments are often not accepted, especially at smaller stalls and in the beer tents. This way, you stay flexible and avoid unnecessary hassle when it comes to paying. With a reservation and cash in your pocket, you are perfectly prepared for the Wiesn!

The „Oide Wiesn“, literally „Old Meadow“, is a festival held alongside the main Oktoberfest that highlights the traditional character of the event with brass music and historic rides.
On the grounds, visitors can experience the origins of the Munich Oktoberfest. In addition to traditional and cultural programs, you can enjoy the Munich Wiesnbier from stone mugs.
Ironically, the „traditional part“ of the Oktoberfest is the only area that requires an entrance fee. The four euros charged per person help subsidize the historic rides, which cost only €1.50 per ride. Visitors receive a wristband that allows re-entry. However, on weekends, access to the festival grounds may be temporarily restricted due to overcrowding.
