Holiday Park Hambachtal: Insolvency and Closure – What Happens Now?
Sad news from the Hunsrück: The popular holiday park Hambachtal has been closed since September 30, 2025. Insolvency, job losses, and search for investors – our update on the current situation.
Insolvency shock in the Hunsrück
The holiday park Hambachtal, with 218 holiday homes, 48 apartments, and over 1,250 beds, filed for insolvency at the end of August 2025. Despite temporary continued operation during the proceedings, closure on September 30, 2025, became unavoidable. Aftereffects of the coronavirus, soaring energy prices, and a massive backlog of investments were the main drivers.
86 jobs lost – region in crisis
86 employees lost their jobs, a severe blow to tourism in the Hunsrück-Hochwald. New bookings have been stopped, and existing reservations were canceled. The swimming pool, leisure facilities, and the entire park operations are suspended for the time being.
Technical emergencies force closure
Heating failures, rejected electricity contracts, and a dilapidated aquapark required high immediate investments – money that was lacking in the insolvency proceedings. The administrator called it a "bottomless pit": even with creditor support, profitable operation was no longer possible.
Hope for a new investor
The insolvency administrator is actively seeking buyers for a complete package including central buildings and holiday homes. Rumors of a Belgian investor are circulating – with plans for modernization and reopening. However, there are no concrete dates or commitments yet.
